Kay Lee

MA, LPC, RYT

Hi I’m Kay! My pronouns are they/them/theirs. I am a queer, non-binary, person of culture, a healer, a helper, a seeker of knowledge, and a lover of exploration and connection. I am a poet, a cat guardian, a yogi, a powerlifter, and an eternal child at heart.

My Journey

It took a very long time to admit I was meant for this work. My career path began as an educator, creative writer, and community outreach volunteer.  I have dabbled in herbalism, dreamed of being a naturopath, was a part-time yoga teacher, a childcare provider, and an office manager.

It wasn’t until a series of losses in my family unearthed a depth of grief I hadn’t known before, that my career path and life changed. I turned to the knowledge of my own body to do inner work and healing and discovered that my body could be my compass and trusted ally. This was a profound shift for me as I used to be someone who didn’t feel safe in my body and used my mind to “think my way through” everything. Of course, this only led me to more suffering and bouts of anxiety and depression. It was when I came to realize that my body was a source of truth that I could attune, that my life improved. From this place, I chose to dedicate my studies to body-based practices such as somatic therapy.

As someone who has overcome and managed chronic pain and autoimmune conditions, I know that the body is a powerful access point for healing, and combine my experiences and training to work in a dynamic and personal way.

My Training and Experience

I received my Masters Degree in Integral Psychology from the California Institute of Integral Studies. I have completed a two year comprehensive program in psychotherapeutic approaches that include the Hakomi Method, a mindfulness based somatic therapy, and the RE-Creation of Self model of human systems or R-CS, through the M.E.T.A Institute. Both of these are attachment oriented and trauma informed practices. In addition to these methods I use mindfulness based CBT, Internal Family Systems (IFS) and EMDR techniques.

I combine my experiences from various mediums such as natural medicine, energy work, therapeutic touch, sound healing, archetypal astrology, intuitive development, authentic relating circles, social justice and anti-oppression work, ecofeminism, conscious philosophy, nonviolent communication training, and over twenty years of yoga and meditation practice, to serve with a holistic perspective.

With an awareness of systemic issues, I make it a point to take into account multicultural perspectives and intersectionality as it relates to the individuals, couples and groups I works with.

I value authenticity, awareness and deep connection, viewing counseling and coaching as a collaborative process and a relationship above all else. I see this work as an opportunity to explore in depth what is going on in your life. I aim to hold a broader perspective, provide a safe container to explore your internal world and inspire holistic personal growth.

How I will work with you:

I take a somatic and experiential approach to the work I do with my clients, and have been described as “engaged, gentle, direct, and creative.” It is important to me that I meet you where you are, while also challenging you to learn and grow.

Examples of what might happen in a session:

  • Teaching and talking about the mind-body connection.
  • Working on skill building and encouraging self-regulation.
  • Guiding you through a visualization process and directing you into your body.
  • Asking questions to inspire the inquiry process and build awareness.
  • Holding space with compassion as we do this work together.
